PARISH CHURCH

Ministers Musings

This coming Sunday is Palm Sunday when we remember Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem and the crowds turned out to greet and cheer him. However not many days later on he would be betrayed by one of his own followers and his closest disciples would see him arrested and left to face the authorities by himself. The establishment of the day had had enough of his teaching and the challenge of his presence amongst them. Yet all he taught was 'love your neighbour' and 'love one another' and to turn the other cheek, to go the other mile, to be generous, compassionate and kind. He challenged the religious and political establishment which in turn feared for itself so they sought to get rid of Jesus but the great story of Easter is that you certainly can't keep a good man down and Jesus was more than a good man, he was God's pure, perfect love incarnate. Yes the Easter story reminds us that in the end goodness overcomes wrong and injustice because Jesus rose from the dead on Easter Sunday, his tomb was found empty and he appeared to his disciples giving them the hope, the inspiration and the spiritual power to go into all the world and preach and teach about a new way of life. A way of life that if lived brings kindness and compassion to an often unforgiving world. This Easter think about the power, the life, the courage and the compassion of Jesus and you will be inspired to live life to the full.
